How the BDA® Certification Process Works
Every candidate follows the same structured certification process, regardless of which BDA® certification they are pursuing. The process is designed to be clear, accessible, and globally consistent — from the moment you decide to get certified to the day you receive your credential.
The BDA® certification framework is built on the BDA BoCK™ 2026 — the official Body of Competency and Knowledge for the business development profession. Both BDA-CP® and BDA-SCP® are assessed against this same framework, at different levels of depth and strategic application.
The certification process consists of five steps: choosing the right certification, preparing using the official framework, registering for your exam, sitting the online proctored examination, and earning and maintaining your credential. Each step is supported by dedicated preparation resources and structured learning paths.

Step 1: Choose the Right Certification
The first step in the business development certification process is identifying which credential aligns with your experience level and career goals. BDA® offers two globally recognised certifications: the foundational BDA-CP® and the advanced BDA-SCP®. Review the eligibility criteria before applying.
- BDA-CP® is ideal for professionals with 1–4 years of BD experience
- BDA-SCP® is designed for senior leaders with 5+ years
- Neither certification requires a specific academic background — both are experience-based

Step 2: Prepare Using the BDA BoCK™
The BDA Body of Competency and Knowledge (BDA BoCK™) 2026 is the official framework underpinning all BDA® certification exams. Registration
Step 3: Register for Your Certification Exam
Complete your exam registration through the BDA® online store. Select your certification, review the exam details, and complete the secure payment process to confirm your enrolment. You will receive a confirmation email with next steps after registration.
- BDA members receive the BDA BoCK™ as part of their membership package
- Corporate members may have exam enrolments included in their plan

Exam Day
Step 4: Take the Online Proctored Examination
The BDA® certification exam is delivered online through a secure proctored platform. You can sit the exam from anywhere in the world — all you need is a computer with a webcam and a stable internet connection. - Passing score is 70% for both certifications

Certification
Step 5: Earn and Maintain Your Certification
Upon passing, you will receive your official BDA® certificate and a verifiable digital badge. Your certification is valid for 3 years and is recognised by employers and organisations in 36+ countries. Before your credential expires, you will need to complete the BDA recertification process to maintain your standing as a certified BD professional.
