Founded to Define
a Profession
For decades, business development operated without a unified global standard. It was frequently misunderstood, inconsistently defined, and often reduced to sales, networking, or opportunistic deal-making. While markets became more complex and globalised, the discipline responsible for structured growth remained fragmented.
BDA was founded to change that. Headquartered in London, United Kingdom, with an active regional presence in the Middle East and North Africa, BDA was created to serve as the global standard-setting authority for business development — establishing clarity where ambiguity existed and defining measurable competence where assumptions once prevailed.
As a non-profit professional association, BDA operates independently of commercial interests. Its standards, certifications, and frameworks are developed through rigorous Global Practice Analysis involving practitioners, academics, and organisations across multiple continents.
