Official competency definition

The leadership capability that turns opportunity into enduring value.

Strategic leadership is the foundational behavioral competency for business development professionals. It is the ability to set direction, inspire action, make high-stakes decisions, and drive execution in pursuit of long-term organizational growth and value creation. While all BD professionals must demonstrate leadership—regardless of formal title or hierarchical position—strategic leadership is especially critical for those in senior roles or those aspiring to them.
